Republicans and Democrats…change is needed.

I get the feeling that most American’s are starting to feel like I’m feeling. Disenfranchised. My distaste, disdain, disappointment, and disgust with politics on the federal and state level is reaching a fever pitch. I’m not alone and the latest polls show this.

However, both parties are too busy dismantling this great nation in an effort to squander more political power than they are in correcting the course of the nation. Republicans gave us TARP and and Democrats followed that up with Obama’s stimulus package. We look to the right for conservative values and find untrustworthy leadership. We look to the left and find hope masked in huge government growth.

Republicans are falling over themselves to jump on the anti-Obama wave much like Democrats ran on the “I’m not Bush” ticket to victory. While I can hardly point to one important thing Obama has done to make this country stronger, I’d rather have politicians in office who are pushing for legislation we can all get behind instead of playing partisan games. Note to Republicans: Democrat’s failures do not give you an instant mandate to stop serving the American people. Note to Democrats: Look at the latest polls…you couldn’t be more out of touch with what American’s are concerned with.

I’m tired of politicians that won’t state where they stand until they’ve heard from their “interest groups”, party leaders, and taken stock of other legislators that owe them a favor. Politicians have adopted the habit of only ambiguously answering questions on an issue with bewildering statements that never clearly state where they stand. I’m greatly missing the days of leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill because it’s one thing to have political beliefs…it’s entirely another thing to stand for them.

It makes me wonder. What percentage of politicians truly care more about the work they are doing than actually just care to keep their position in office? Is it any surprise that the Tea Party movement is catching on? It shouldn’t be. It also shouldn’t shock you that they don’t want to be tied to either party. The people have stopped trusting Washington, and rightly so.

There is no too big to fail! People don’t want any more government bailouts. Nobody wants to hear about health care overhaul when jobs are disappearing. We’re tired of career politicians. And, surprise, American’s want to protect our bleeding borders…not because they’re racist but because of the burden it places on our struggling economy. Enough is enough already.

More and more people are labeling themselves “conservatives” and shying away from “Republican”. Democrats are moving away from party affiliation and claiming they’re “independents”. American’s aren’t disengaged with the process, they’re furious and joining together to fight back. Washington has failed us and it’s time to get rid of career politicians who don’t understand the economic impacts of their legislation. It’s time to set term limits. It’s time to find new leaders with a vision and the guts to stick to that vision. It’s time to return this nation to the way the founders intended it to be…government BY THE PEOPLE.

As a footnote, I’d like to show that there are some Senator’s who seem to be in touch with their constituents. Here are the top 10, according to Visible Vote.

1: Bernard Sanders, I, 86.96%

2: Patrick Leahy, D, 82.60%

3: James Inhofe, R, 78.26%

4: Jim DeMint, R, 78.26%

5: John Barrasso, R, 72.73%

6: Tom Coburn, R, 69.56%

7: Jefferson B. Sessions, R, 69.56%
