No-bid for you! Vincent Checchi and Obama.

Obama is so full of hot air. Fake promises and double-talk abound. Throughout Obama’s campaign, he decried no-bid contracts and promised to end them. The media crucified Bush over Halliburton, but here comes news of Obama being nothing more than talk, yet again, and nobody seems to be picking it up. Here’s a video of numerous speeches by Obama promising to end no-bid contracts.

Even after becoming President, while signing a memorandum to end no-bid contracts, Obama promised to "end unnecessary no-bid and cost-plus contracts…In some cases, contracts are awarded without competition….And that’s completely unacceptable.” Now all that sounds nice, but we’re learning that Obama is just talk with no sustenance.

Vincent Checchi, an Obama supporter who is cited as giving at least $4,400 to Obama, mysteriously just won a $25 million no-bid contract for “rule of law stabilizations services” in Afghanistan. Hmmm?

People seem to conveniently overlook that the Halliburton contract was renewed without a bid because they possessed the capabilities to complete the work other companies couldn’t provide. Checchi’s service is a service many companies could provide. Another company that has done similar work in Afghanistan and Iraq was quoted as say, “That’s kind of weird. There’s lots of companies and non-governmental organizations that do this sort of work."

Reporting to Fox News, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said, "on its face the consulting contract awarded to Checchi to support the Afghan justice system does not appear to be so urgent or attendant to an immediate need so as to justify such a waiver."

I understand that no-bid contracts happen. I understand that sometimes there’s a good reason, as I described with Halliburton. However, this is not one of those cases and we have Obama on record campaigning on this issue. Should he not be held to his words?
